1. Changi Commander Barracks was formerly the British Royal Engineers’ Command Building that was built in 1935. At the front door the letters “RE” stands for Royal Engineers. The British used this as an air and naval base in World War II against the Japanese Invasion. When British withdrew, it was temporary used by private companies. After which Mindef used it as Headquarters for Commandos. It was one of the famous haunted places in Singapore however now it is out of bounds to public.
2. Old Changi Hospital that sat on small Barrack Hill and its history goes all the way back to the thirties. Back then it was a Royal Air Force Hospital used by the British as a military Hospital. During Japanese occupations, Japanese used it as a hospital for the prisoners of war. In 1971 when British withdrew forces, it was renamed Anzuk Hospital Referring to Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom armed forces.
In 1975, it was converted to SAF Hospital serving the national servicemen’s medical needs. In 1976, MOH opened up the hospital to the public. Due to the steep steps, Changi Hospital together with Toa Payoh Hospital was then relocated to a new premise in Simei in 1997. Since then the abandoned Old Changi Hospital became a favorite place for ghost spotting.
